GREEN & BLUE INFRASTRUCTURE

Green Connections

A new park, named Silo Park, will border Silo D to the south. It has been located here to allow a direct line of site from the A1020 and adjoining pavement which will alert passers-by to its presence and welcome them in to enjoy the space.

Having such a large park on the boundary also increases permeability to the site from surrounding areas as a lack of physical connections between neighbourhoods is a problem at present.

An improved road crossing will help to connect the existing green network (Thames Barrier Park) with the new (Silo Park), further connecting the wider area.

Extensive new green infrastructure.

Green Network

Silo Park size will greatly expand the area's green network which is greatly lacking at present. Its location and size will allow people the opportunity to sit, stay and enjoy which is particularly important in Newham due to the rate at which it is developing and the new realities of post-pandemic city living

The park's proximity to the Silo will allow events to spill outside in the summer and become a hive of activity, similar to the outdoor spaces in Nante's cultural district.

The water will be reactivated, similar to the regeneration process within Nantes.

Blue Network

The water will be reactivated by the creation of a Lido adjacent to the silo which will allow all ages to enjoy the extensive blue network that is on their doorstep. The Silo will provide changing facilities and a cafe for spectators whilst free swimming lessons will be available for residents of the area to gain a new vital life skill.

The floating beds will provide the additional benefit of helping to filtrate the water, making it cleaner for swimmers.

A lido will provide community benefit in the form of leisure and exercise.

Silo Park

Silo Park allows Silo D to stand centre stand within its surroundings which highlights its importance and central place within the new community.
